I so love that you & Nick got to return to Glasgow Cathedral. Like you, this hits me so deeply in the description of St. Mungo: "And showing abundantly the cheerfulness of the outward man as the sign and most faithful interpreter of his inner goodness, he poured out over all a certain contentment of spiritual delight and exultation, which the Lord had laid up as a treasure for him."
Being naturally somewhat melancholic, this notion - the cheerfulness of the outward man - has been something I've really focused on in the past few years.
Nick looks like the mural. He just needs Birdie, and a hat. :)
